Manufacturing of BAKING SODA

Manufacturing of BAKING SODA :

           Chemical name of baking soda is Sodium hydrogen carbonate Or Sodium bicarbonate. It chemical formula is NaHCO3 .

Manufacture : 

           Sodium bicarbonate is commercially prepared by Solvey Ammonia process using brine in this method is obtained as a primary product.

Properties of baking soda : 

           It is white crystalline partially soluble in water. The aqueous solution shows alkaline properties.

Effect of heat :

           On heating baking soda get dissociated into Sodium carbonate and CO2 gas is evolved.

                   Heat

2NaHCO3    ⟶    Na2CO3    +    CO2    +    H2O

(Baking soda)              (Sodium carbonate) (Carbon dioxide) 

                 Due to this reaction it is used in bakeries and effervescent drinks.

Uses :

● For removing stomach acidity as antacid.

● Baking soda is used in preparing cacks, breads etc. in bakeries.

● In fire fighter instruments also baking soda is used.
